Ospitalità in camera condivisa, lingue parlate: italiano, francese, inglese, russo, rumeno, moldavo. ****************************** This 34 hectare farm has started a permaculture project which we hope will reproduce as much as possible the biodiversity and richness of the natural ecosystem in our cultivation and human activities.

Merci encore.

I spent a formidable month at the farm, people were really nice and kind. I had multiple types of task, like Harvesting vegetables and fruits (and also washing and cutting them), watering the plants in the garden or removing bad herbs and killing bugs. The food was really delicious and tasty. The bedroom was really comfy. Personally, I tried my best to practice my Italian with everyone, I could understand a lot, but it was harder to answer for my case. I could also practice my English with some people. It was a unique experience that I really enjoyed. I will miss everyone and the good times I spent with them. Thank you so much to Irene, Vitali, the staff, the volunteers, and everyone.

The three weeks I spent at Cascina Santa Brera were incredible! I was made very welcome by Irene and the other people working on the farm. The work is varied, interesting and accessible, but can be tiring. The food was always excellent and the room, shared with the other woofers, was comfortable and air-conditioned. Thanks to Irene for a wonderful stay. I recommend this woofing!

I spent 3 weeks in October at the cascina Santa Brera. We had strict times in which we worked (from 8 to 12, then a break until 15 in which we had lunch and then we worked again until 18) and the weekends were free. Via bus and metro it was easy to spend weekends in Milan. We woofers worked with and were overseen by Vitali, who spoke only Italian and Russian. Nevertheless I was able to communicate with him and understood more and more Italian as time passed. Working with him was nice, he’s a very kind and open person. The atmosphere outside from working hours was different from how I expected it, not hospitable and warm but rather tense. I was very disappointed in the food. As a vegetarian my choices were often limited. There were either a lot of vegetables (which was good) or none at all, often pasta with little sauce. The food was often reheated, sometimes multiple times over. There was little interest in us woofers from Irene and her family’s side, which made me sometimes feel like we were simply workers that weren’t getting paid. woofing is supposed to be about learning from each other and working together while having fun. Especially since I’m now on another farm and I’m experiencing how it’s supposed to be, my frustrations in Cascina Santa Brera become even more apparent. I don’t know why my experience was so different then the ones of many before me but this is my honest review with positive and negative aspects of my stay.

The whole month of October I stayed at Cascina Santa Brera. We got up at 7 and then worked 7 hours a day with a 'reposa' from 12 till 15. It was nice to have a certain schedule because therefore I came into a regular routine. In the first part of my stay, the work dissapointed me. I thought that I was going to learn a lot about the vegetables and animals. However, I had to collect catterpillars and crush them afterwards for most of the time. When I asked Vitali, the man who tells us what we should do for work, if I could do more varied jobs, he responded well and I was able to do more different tasks like collecting eggs from the chickens, cleaning & stamping them, or cutting/ collecting vegetables, The meals weren't so good. For breakfast there was old bread and cookies. Lunch and dinner were sometimes questionable with leftovers, reheated over and over again, and often no protein sources for vegetarians. Often I had to buy my own food. I did meet some really kind people of the staff, or other people who help out at the cascina, like Fransesco who taught us games . But the hospitality was strange as I didn't really feel like a guest but more like a free worker that the cascina's owners don't pay much attention to. In the weekends we were free and it was great to be able to go to Milano so easily. Furthermore, Irene washed & dried our clothes wich was kind. Briefly, I am greatful for this experience and there are also some things that could be improved.
