Azienda agricola
Firenze
Produciamo cereali antichi, farine, pasta, erbe aromatiche (salvie, rosmarini, lavande), confetture e olio extravergine d'oliva.

We host motivated wwoofers since 2015. We are a family of 6 people, we have 4 children born between 1998 and 2007. We live in a recently renovated 500 year old farm, renovated with almost zero impact bio-architecture and which is 15 minutes by bike from Calenzano train station (the train to Florence takes the same time), and there is also a bus to the center of Calenzano. We heat ourselves with wood and pellets; we have a photovoltaic system; we store rainwater to water the garden; we compost. We run the farm according to the principles of organic farming and we would like to make greater use of biodynamics. We have 6 hectares of arable land (ancient grains - olive trees) and 6 hectares of woodland. We produce ancient cereals, flours, aromatic herbs and oil. Recurring outdoor work is the care of the forest and wood, pruning of olives in October and fruit trees, olive harvesting, vegetable garden, flower garden, lavender plantation, construction of fences, care of plants, construction of driveways, dry stone walls, containment of grasses. We package cereals, flour and herbs, and also take care of online marketing. We have a very affectionate Bernese shepherd dog, 4 cats and 10 hens. We also do another job, so in some months of the year wwoofing may be done independently. In principle, we offer to set up a tent under a canopy loggia, with the use of the services in the house. We offer an apartment when this is not rented by tourists. We gladly host willing people interested in our activities, for about 2 weeks, if we are all comfortablewith the situation also for longer periods, we speak English, German, Spanish and French. We like art, music, and we love the real and the beautiful. We like to share our time with our guests and have dinner together when it is possible, but it is not always possible due to the organisation of our work and family. Time of daily activities to be adapted to the course of the seasons.

November 2025
I had a lovely time at Podere Montisi. Barbara and the family (plus Baloo and the cats) were excellent hosts and made me feel extremely welcome. There was always lots to do on the farm, even after the olive harvest. I spent most of my time working in the quince orchard and prepping the polytunnel for winter. Barbara had so much knowledge to share and gave me all the tools I needed to be self-sufficient. She also encouraged me to take time off to explore the area.
This was my first wwoofing experience, and I am grateful to have spent it at Podere. I wish I could’ve stayed longer! Looking forward to hearing how the new plants do over the winter.

My time at the Podere Montisi farm was wonderful; even though it was only a week, the days were filled with different tasks. I especially enjoyed working in the garden. I learned a lot, for example, how to plant new herb seedlings. Working with Barbara was invaluable! She has a very kind personality that made it easy to get to know her and her lovely family and take them to my heart.
Everyone who visits the family and the farm with the same great interest in sustainability and an open heart will receive a warm welcome.
Thank you so much for the wonderful and enjoyable time away. I'll visit you again!
Ps. The olive oil and different homemade jams are incredibly delicious. I hope some of you get to enjoy them!

Podere Montisi is a lovely place cared for by a wonderful family. Spent 3 weeks in October-November for the olive season. My first 2 weeks consisted of weeding and making jam and rosmarino salt as the olive trees were not yet ready for picking, but once we started, it was a week-long labor of love. Combing an olive tree is very therapeutic. We got to enjoy the fruits of our labor at the end of the week, transporting 888kg of olives to the mill to see it transform into pure olive oil and enjoying it with good bread. The olive oil is so fresh and tasty; I never knew it could have such flavor.
Barbara and her family were very welcoming. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with Barbara, the family, and the other WWOOFers. I admire Barbara's passion for sustainability, justice, and community. We talked about the importance of women in agriculture, the circular economy, and shared special stories about ourselves. This experience ignited my passion for gardening and has inspired me to find community gardens around me. Podere Montisi is a special place. Missing the olive trees, Barbara and the family, and of course, Balu and Pablo. I hope to be back in the future!

I had a very nice experience at the Podere Montisi.
Barbara and her family are lovely hosts and I got to do a multitude of activities.
We planted herbs, covered the orchard with straw, seeded grains, prepared orange marmalade, closed holes in the fences, and recorded a path for the forest bathing experience.
I appreciated the patience of Barbara to explain me the activities and working together.
You can also enjoy talking about diverse topics in sustainability in general and agriculture in particular with the family as they are passionate and engage in many related educational activities.

#1. Achieve Motivation
She answered my questions honestly and told me as much as she could about the areas I was interested in. I learned the creativity and ingenuity of Barbara and Saverio. I also felt that running a farm was never something I could do alone. I could see with my eyes that it was a wonderful farm because it was a place where a wonderful family was together.
.
#2. Living condition
I used a separate room and bathroom. There are facilities so that you can cook separately and Barbara prepared the ingredients. I usually ate in the kitchen with my family. It was the best room in WWOOFer I've ever used. I could also use the spacious studio right in front of the bedroom.
.
#3. WWOOFing
My time with Barbara was wonderful. Barbara may have been tired, but I wanted to keep up with her and do everything together. She tried to create opportunities to experience as many things as possible. There was a storm during my stay and it prepared me some interesting things to do indoors. I received excessive encouragement and compliments over and over again. This time I just got it from Barbara, but next time I'll be the one who can give her something and go again.

#4. Other
It's not for traveling in Florence. I don't want people who don't know the value to take away other people's chances. Please come to see and learn as long as possible on the farm. It's the best host I've ever met. Thank you for welcoming me as an Italian family. I'll definitely go again. I miss the days there

My experience in "Podere Montisi" was beautiful and crucial for my journey to a healthy lifestyle.
Day after day, I became convinced that WWOOF is not only about farmings or working with animals or cultivating the land; it's more than that, it is Human-family, and that is what I experienced with Madame Barbara and her family. With a beautiful atmosphere, dialogue among family members, respect, and good vibes, I felt belonging, and I felt at Home.
I've learned new things; even I was honored to meet with Barbara's friends to discuss citizenship values and promote the spirit of ecology.
Thank you for this opportunity to learn and grow
All the best
Amine
