Piccola giovane realtà famigliare nella Tuscia viterbese

We are Stella, Lorenzo and Maia: as a family we chose to move from Rome to the countryside around Viterbo to experiment a new way of living and working, in a more sustainable way, in harmony with the environment. Since the birth of our baby daughter Maia, in 2016, we chose to quit our full time jobs and bring her up in an open environment, dedicating her the amount of time that would have been impossible otherwise. We have rented part of an old renovated house in a rural area between Marta and Tuscania, where we share the garden, orchard and other communal areas with the owners (a family with 3 big sons not living at home), two easy dogs, cats and chickens. We have roughly 200 olive trees, a small orchard and a field with scented plants which we cultivate and harvest to transform in several products (essential oil, herbal tea, pesto, cosmetic products...). We have recently (november 23) planted almost a hectare of small "red" fruits: blackberries, blueberries and raspberries, creating a small agroforest with other trees. Everything is organic! We do not use any chemicals nor pesticides and are happy to know and experiment the use of natural remedies. Come and see yourselves: bees, butterflies, worms, spiders, birds and other creatures live happily on site! We try as much as possible to produce ourselves what we need (vegetables, bread, biscuits & cakes, jam, pesto, pickles), and we try also to do ecological choises... Our day to day life begins early: during the school year (september-june) we drive Maia to school at 8 and we spend the rest of the morning working in the countryside or doing home stuff or burocratical works at the computer or even driving somewhere to bring our products or buy something. At lunch we take a break and a rest, and then we continue working in and/or outside the house, depending on the weather and on the seasonal jobs. During weekend we often have markets to sell our products. In summer this timetable changes and we usually work in the early morning and at the end of the afternoon, because it's too hot!! We are open minded, very courious and we love to know and learn from other people. We enjoy cooking and are looking forward to trying recipes from all over the world. We are regular smokers, but obviously smoke only outside. We speak Italian, English, French, a little bit of Spanish and German.
We would like to host people who can help us mantain and develop the garden and the olive grove, who are keen on learning about scented and healing plants, how to cultivate them and how to use them. Some of the seasonal jobs we expect people to help us with are: pruning, sowing, transplanting, harvesting, cleaning the fields from weeds/wild plants. We are looking even at someone who is willing to help with the household, some maintenance or improvement works around the house. Depending on the level of experience, the length of stay, their preferences and the season: we will devise together with the volunteers the most suitable activities for them. Woofers will be assigned a private bedroom with a sofa bed and private bathroom. We ask people to clean the room and the bathroom themselves, and leave them clean at the end of their stay. They will share the kitchen and the living room with us, as well as the communal areas outside the house. There is central heating and WIFI. We are omnivore, but do welcome people who live on other diets (please tell us before). We usually cook and eat together. We kindly ask volunteers to inform us of any allergies and food intolerances/needs (vegetarians, vegans, diabetics, gluten free...) beforehand. In the spare time people can profit from the big spaces around the house, keeping in mind they are in common with the rest of the family. Few kilometres away, on the edge of Bolsena Lake, lie Marta and Capodimonte. The lake is the biggest bathing, volcanic lake in Europe. 9 kilometres away there is Tuscania, with its numerous medioeval buildings; private and free open-air spas (= terme); Montefiascone; Viterbo... and other typical towns of the area (Tuscia is the name of the area). You can even go to the sea (more or less 1 hour). From where we are, volunteers can travel by bus (picking you up to the bus stop in the nearest villages Marta or Tuscania, depending on destination and timetable). More freedom is guaranteed with a own car. We appreciate autonomy and personal independence too. We usually meet friends, go swimming to the lake or to the sea (during summer), or simply enjoy a drink at sunset or in front of the fireplace in winter. We are also members of local farmers’ communities who run local markets, undertake local initiatives and throw some party (especially during summer)! This network aims at supporting each other and helping the community thrive.

Siamo Stella, Lorenzo e Maia: come famiglia abbiamo scelto di trasferirci da Roma nella campagna viterbese per sperimentare un nuovo modo di vivere e lavorare, in modo più sostenibile, in armonia con l'ambiente. Dalla nascita della nostra bambina Maia, nel 2016, abbiamo scelto di lasciare il nostro lavoro a tempo pieno e di farla crescere in un ambiente aperto, dedicandole la quantità di tempo che altrimenti sarebbe stata impossibile. Abbiamo affittato parte di un'antica casa ristrutturata in una zona rurale tra Marta e Tuscania, dove condividiamo il giardino, il frutteto e altre aree comuni con i proprietari (una famiglia con 3 ragazzi grandi ormai universitari fuori casa), due tranquilli cani, gatti e galline . Abbiamo circa 200 piante di ulivo, un piccolo frutteto e un campo con piante aromatiche che coltiviamo e raccogliamo per trasformare in diversi prodotti (olio essenziale, tisane, pesto, prodotti cosmetici...). Recentemente (novembre 23) abbiamo piantato quasi un ettaro di piccoli frutti “rossi”: more, mirtilli e lamponi, creando una piccola agroforesta con altri alberi. Tutto è biologico! Non utilizziamo prodotti chimici né pesticidi e siamo felici di conoscere e sperimentare l'uso di rimedi naturali. Venite a vedere voi stessi: api, farfalle, vermi, ragni, uccelli e altre creature che vivono felici sul posto! Cerchiamo il più possibile di produrre noi stessi ciò di cui abbiamo bisogno (verdura, pane, marmellata, pesto), e cerchiamo anche di fare riciclo, riuso, scelte ecologiche... La nostra vita quotidiana inizia presto: portiamo Maia a scuola alle 8 e passiamo il resto della mattinata lavorando in campagna o sbrigando faccende domestiche o lavori burocratici al computer o anche per consegnare i nostri prodotti, comprare qualcosa o altre incombenze varie. A pranzo ci prendiamo una pausa e ci riposiamo, poi continuiamo a lavorare dentro e/o fuori casa, a seconda del tempo e dei lavori stagionali. Durante il fine settimana abbiamo spesso mercati per vendere i nostri prodotti. Abbiamo una mentalità aperta, molto curiosi e amiamo conoscere e imparare dalle altre persone. Ci piace cucinare e non vediamo l'ora di provare ricette da tutto il mondo. Siamo fumatori abituali, ma ovviamente solo all'esterno. Parliamo italiano, inglese, francese, un poco di spagnolo e tedesco. Vorremmo ospitare persone che possano aiutarci a mantenere e sviluppare il giardino e l'oliveto, che abbiano voglia di conoscere le piante officinali, come coltivarle e come utilizzarle, nella piccola manutenzione e nei mille lavoretti che quotidianamente ci troviamo a svolgere. Alcuni dei lavori stagionali per ci aspettiamo che le persone ci aiutino sono: potatura, semina, trapianto, raccolta, controllo delle spontanee. Cerchiamo anche qualcuno disposto ad aiutare con la casa, qualche lavoro di manutenzione o miglioramento. A seconda del livello di esperienza, della durata del soggiorno, delle preferenze e della stagione, troveremo insieme ai volontari le attività più adatte a loro. Ai woofer verrà assegnata una camera da letto con divano letto a una piazza e mezza e bagno privato. Possiamo ospitare massimo 2 persone per volta. Chiediamo alle persone di provvedere personalmente alla pulizia della camera e del bagno, e di lasciarli puliti alla fine del soggiorno. Condivideranno con noi la cucina e il soggiorno, così come gli spazi comuni esterni alla casa. C'è il riscaldamento centralizzato e WIFI. Siamo onnivori, ma accogliamo senza problemi persone con altre diete. Di solito cuciniamo e mangiamo insieme. Chiediamo gentilmente ai volontari di segnalarci preventivamente eventuali allergie e intolleranze/esigenze alimentari (vegetariani, vegani, diabetici, gluten free...). Se viaggiate in camper o furgone, c’è tanto spazio per parcheggiarlo. Nel tempo libero le persone possono sfruttare gli ampi spazi intorno alla casa, tenendo presente che sono in comune con il resto della famiglia. A pochi chilometri, sulle rive del Lago di Bolsena, si trovano Marta e Capodimonte. Il lago è il più grande lago balneabile e vulcanico d'Europa. A 9 chilometri c'è Tuscania, con i suoi numerosi edifici medioevali; terme all'aperto private e gratuite, Montefiascone, Viterbo... e altri paesi tipici della Tuscia (che è il nome della zona!). Si può anche andare al mare (più o meno 1 ora). Da dove ci troviamo, i volontari possono viaggiare in pullman (possiamo portarvi alla fermata nei paesi più vicini, Marta o Tuscania, a seconda della destinazione e dell'orario) ma sicuramente un'automobile propria consente maggiore libertà. Apprezziamo anche l'autonomia e l'indipendenza personale. Solitamente ci incontriamo con gli amici, andiamo a nuotare al lago o al mare (in estate), o semplicemente ci godiamo un drink al tramonto o davanti al camino in inverno. Siamo anche membri di comunità di agricoltori locali che gestiscono mercati locali, intraprendono iniziative locali e organizzano cene/feste!

What a great time I had with Stella, Lorenzo and Maia.
I felt a warm welcome and loved to help this hard working family to build there dreams a little further by working at there beautiful treegarden and preparing the small jars with Semi of Tuscia for the shop Stella will open before this summer.
I enjoyed every minute, with everything we did.
And thank them for the chance they gave me to do this and the time to visit also some nice places round the lake.

Estoy muy contento con la experiencia que he tenido en casa de Stella, Lorenzo y la pequeña Maia. Son una familia muy acogedora y generosa. Me proporcionaron una habitación con una cama grande y mi propio baño. Además, he aprendido trabajando en sus campos el cuidado de las plantas de frambuesa y arándano, entre otras labores. También me tuvieron mucha paciencia enseñándome la bella lingua Italiana.
La ubicación es muy buena, con el lago muy cerca. Tiempo de calidad! Excelente experiencia!

Maria Stella e Lorenzo sono stati per me una breve ma importante finestra su quello che rappresenta il laborioso e significativo mondo dell'agricoltura nelle sue diverse sfaccettature, accogliendomi con la loro gentilezza e genuinità!
Ho apprezzato veramente tanto l'essenzialità di una vita quotidiana fatta di quel che serve, una comunicazione limpida, un contorno sincero, reale e tanto verde in cui stare e rimanere con gli occhi ed il pensiero.
Ci tengo ad aggiungere che per un mio momento di vita, mi serviva e mi è servita la grande spinta energica che mi hanno trasmesso e che ho provato durante e dopo questa esperienza!
Quindi anche per la considerevole determinazione ed umiltà con cui sostengono questo progetto, consiglio Semi di Tuscia a tutti coloro che vogliono provare una simile esperienza e che ritrovano qualcosa di familiare in queste parole.

Esperienza davvero bella e stimolante, a contatto con una realtà diversa dalla mia quotidianità. Stella e la sua meravigliosa famiglia mi hanno fatta sentire accolta. La gestione del lavoro mi ha consentito di avere tempo per esplorare i dintorni, ricchi di storia e di luoghi da scoprire.

Going to spend a week of Wwoofing with Stella, Maya & Lorenzo was the best choice I could have make this summer. The three of them are so nice, so welcoming, I immediately felt at my place. In one week I learned a lot of thing about plants, Olivetti, the culture and the Italian of course! They were so kind with me.
The house is amazing and full of charm. You have your own room and bathroom.
I loved the work we did, everyday a new thing to do, and so a new opportunity to learn something. We work for 2/3 hours every morning and evening, because during the day it was too hot. After lunch they were so kind they brung me everyday to the lake where I could swim and relax !
I could not have dream for a better first experience, thank you 🙏

Ho trascorso due bellissime settimane come woofer e non posso che esprimere la mia gratitudine per l'esperienza vissuta. Fin dal primo momento Stella e Lorenzo insieme alla piccola Maia si sono dimostrati estremamente gentili e disponibili per qualsiasi necessità. Durante il mio soggiorno ho avuto l'opportunità di partecipare alla raccolta della lavanda e di altre erbe aromatiche. Inoltre, ho preso parte a molte altre attività insieme a loro, tutte molto gratificanti. Queste esperienze non solo sono state appaganti, ma mi hanno anche permesso di apprendere nuove cose. L'atmosfera che riescono a creare è davvero speciale; ti fanno sentire parte integrante e sono sempre pronti a condividere tutte le loro esperienze e conoscenze. Consiglio vivamente a chiunque cerchi un'esperienza arricchente e significativa.
