---o----o-----0-----o----o--- My name is Anna and I manage a piece of paradise that my parents entrusted to me, which I try to take care of with love and commitment. Podere Chiesa in Varena is above Londa, 35 kilometers from Florence, 12 hectares in the hills. Much of the area is forest, olive grove, chestnut grove and near the house there is a vegetable garden, a lavender field and some fruit trees. Most of these trees are old varieties, and in the vegetable garden I try to grow perennial vegetables using permaculture. Near the house I have a small chicken coop with chickens and geese. Inside, on the other hand, there are five dogs, most of them quite big. I have three children, Angela (1994), Matthew (1995) and Elizabeth (2001) who live abroad and come to visit a couple of times a year. I really like work dogs and I also enjoy dog training. I have lived in Australia and France and speak English and French fluently, I studied German in college, but it is a bit rusty now, and I have also taught myself some Serbo-Croatian. I would like to make my contribution, however modest, for a cleaner and more peaceful world. The area where I live is very dry, so I try to take advantage of every available roof or surface area to recover rainwater in cisterns. I believe that agricultural work is a partnership between humans and nature, so I try to indulge nature in the area where I am by choosing plants that are suitable for **CUT OFF**

I had a really nice time spending five days at Anna’s farm. The farm is in a beautiful valley surrounded by nature, and the sunsets every evening were amazing. Anna was very welcoming and made me feel like at home. During my stay, I harvested lavender, which I really enjoyed. She was always willing to share her knowledge and experience, and I learned a lot about permaculture and essential oils. I stayed in a room in her house with a private bathroom, which was very comfortable. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend staying with Anna.

Our first experience as WWOOF hosts couldn't have been better. We had very special days at Anna's farm, full of learning, especially about permaculture and the care and preservation of nature, in addition to presence and attention. Anna is a human being with a great soul, she carries out her mission with sensitivity and welcomes with generosity. Even the simplest tasks become moments of awareness and exchange. An excellent WWOOF host, organized and open to genuine connections. We left with grateful hearts and recommend her to everyone seeking a meaningful experience.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to Anna. I spent a week volunteering on a farm in the Tuscan mountains and was very pleased. I was very impressed by the beauty of nature, the simple, friendly atmosphere that Anna creates, her wisdom and generosity in communication. Despite my weak English, we found a common language, shared our stories and experiences. I came back with new skills, inspiration and warmth in my heart. This experience makes you appreciate silence and enjoy simple things.

We had a fantastic week at Anna's beautiful farm! We spent the week working with lavender and were rewarded with delicious home-cooked meals and lovely conversations. Anna has cultivated an environment that fosters connection with the environment, and the opportunity to reconnect with what is truly important. We felt so welcomed, and our week at the farm was truly special. I don't have enough good things to say about Anna and our experience there, and anyone would be lucky to spend time at Chiesa a Varena!

My 2 week stay at Chiesa a Varena was a very special time. Anna made me feel right at home from the beginning. She’s so generous and kind and is serious about her love for the environment. Through woofing she’s connecting with people around the world to share her knowledge, experience and little corner of paradise! (It seriously is beautiful)! During my stay I had many tasks, one being my own project where I weeded an area, prepared and planted/seeded it. She allowed me to take full responsibility for the tasks I was doing and through doing so I really got immersed in the experience, was present with nature and learnt so much through simply doing and Anna’s guidance. The food she prepared was home cooked and made with a lot of love, we joked I grew an italian stomach during my stay but in all seriousness I did! And with some of the best quality foods I’ve ever had. I was sad to leave Anna’s and really felt I connected with her. I learnt so much from my stay at Chiesa a Varena and couldn’t recommend Anna enough for those who love nature and want to learn more about what they can do to make a difference through the woofing experience. Grazie Anna!
