The "Giardino della Gioia" is an ecovillage project nestled in a centuries-old olive grove in the northern part of the Gargano National Park, 1 km from the sea.
The project consists of taking care of the olive grove (almost 6 hectares and 600 olive trees), a thousand square meters of a synergetic vegetable garden and about fifty fruit trees. During the summer, various holistic and personal wellness-related events are organized. The main purpose is the self-sustenance of the inhabitants and guests through the conscious use of the resources that nature offers. Its permanent residents at the moment are 3, many others transit throughout the year for medium/long periods. We welcome people with a strong spirit of adaptation and responsibility in co-creating a relationship with nature and what it offers by taking care of it. We meet weekly for an organizational and an emotional circle, if necessary each inhabitant can request an extra sharing circle. For accommodation, we have 3 yurts, a thatched house, a hut made of earth and thatch, and a caravan. Common areas, in addition to the 5 compost-toilets and showers, are: kitchen, temple and circus.
The activities are:
-tending the olive grove (pruning, olive picking, chopping wood)
-taking care of the vegetable garden and fruit trees,
-harvesting and processing vegetables and fruits
-making natural cosmetics
-processing medicinal aromatic plants
-vegan cooking and baking
-fermenting: kefir kombucha, sourdough, vegetables
This vision originated 12 years ago with the idea of creating a permanent rainbow healing, so vegan cuisine, no drugs, no tabacco, no alcohol and coffee.
We ask volunteers to bring their own tent or if available they can use one of the yurts.
The day usually goes as follows:
Wake-up with yoga or meditation activities.
Then we meet in the kitchen for breakfast and organize in groups for the day's activities.
Activities vary according to the time of year and seasonal needs.
You can explore nearby places of naturalistic interest (caves, estuaries, springs, beaches) as well as cultural-historical ones. Participation in folkloric events organized in the surroundings, beach cleaning.
