Ezen is a Small Social and Co-operative that experiments with organic and ethical cultivation in Aquaponics.
We will not only teach our Wwoofer friends the magical technique of Aquaponics, but also, through Bricolage and Crafts, how to DIY small, ready-made plants with 100 square metres of space.
We will host our friends in rooms or tents, depending on availability and season.
We will be enjoying shared lunches in a communal area with genuine, mostly vegetarian food, almost always harvested from our vegetable garden.
We are looking for curious and like-minded souls, aware that through an attitude of humility, kindness and open-mindedness, we can build a new way of living in and preserving the dimension that hosts us.
The commitment and training we offer is half a day of participation, preferably in the morning.
You can also take advantage of our knowledge and our willingness to introduce you to Salento, which is a wonderful place in all seasons. Lecce is called the Florence of the South, not only for its facilities, but also for its artistic ferment.
As well as the beautiful beaches, cliffs and crystal clear sea.
It will be a pleasure to share and get to know each other!

Erika and Christian gave us an incredibly warm welcome. We spent a week with them, and there were various tasks to do: mowing the grass in the garden, weeding and planting vegetables and herbs, helping with school field trips, harvesting mulberries, and cleaning/mopping.
They not only have an aquaponics system but also a wonderful academy for people with special needs. Getting to know these people and seeing how they are supported and encouraged was wonderful.
It was our first WWOOF experience, and we couldn't have found a better place for it!
Thank you so much, and perhaps we'll see you again sometime!

The aquaponic biotope is indescribably fascinating with the most diverse trees, bushes and animals. It felt great to work in it - thanks! The family organizes exciting events for children and adults in this unique atmosphere. Our daily tasks mainly included cleaning lime leaves and tying up plants, but also catching small fish and planting aquatic plants.
We worked 5 hours a day (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and had the afternoon free. We slept in a kind of garden house without solid walls, with electricity, a refrigerator and a separate bathroom, but we also had to pay €5 per person per day for it, which felt a bit strange in terms of the WWOOF principle. But it was communicated beforehand. We had to provide our own breakfast and dinner, then we had lunch together as a family and an espresso at around 11 a.m. Despite the language barrier (Christian spoke Italian and some English, his wife Erika Italian and French, we spoke English and a little French, the kids Italien) we were able to understand our tasks and had nice talks with among each other. It was a little unfortunate that we often had to wait a long time for lunch and sometimes couldn't leave until around 4 p.m. to spend our free time on the beach. Next time we would set the general conditions more clearly in a conversation upfront. We got the impression that the couple was not entirely in agreement about whether they wanted WWOOFers on the farm or not. All in all, it was a very nice experience and we wish them success!

I stayed 10 days at EZEN during winter time. It’s a wonderful place, the structure for aquaponic is really impressive. They’ve built a small peace of paradise there.
Christian and Erika are the owners, they are really nice and friendly.
The tasks I had to carry out were mostly seeding and harvesting flowers or plants. I had to work 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Erika was cooking for lunch and most of diners, for all the family. I had to provide my own food for breakfast and some dinners. I had my own room with a bathroom and a small kitchen.
You can reach Lecce in 15 min by cycling or 40min by walking.
Christian speaks a bit English and Erika speaks some French, we always managed to understand each other.
I really had a nice time there, we even had a great time together during week end, going to visit other cities (Polignano and Monopoli)
Thanks for everything ! I wish you all the best, and hope to see you again 🙂

This aquaponic garden and greenhouse is an amazing, tranquil and innovative place. I really enjoyed the work there (~5 hours every weekday), which included seed planting, pruning of papyrus and banana plants, and bricolage/upcycling. Christian, Erika and their family and friends were great. There were choices and some flexibility; they were happy for me to change a free day from Saturday to Monday so that I could enjoy better weather on a trip to the coast, and I had access to a bicycle – really useful!
The winter accommodation was a comfortable studio flat (camping in the summer), and Christian was responsive to finding more blankets and a source of heating for the coldest evenings. Although lunches with the family were substantive and great (usually pasta and sauce), I unexpectedly had to provide my own breakfasts and dinners. Christian, I totally agree that families (and wwoofers) need some private time, but please consider another way of fulfilling the expectation of 3 meals a day. For example, I understand that other hosts provide food items or basic funds for wwoofers to use. But thank you for some basic cooking items.
One of the best things about wwoofing at Ezen is that workers are genuinely encouraged to express their creativity there. For me, this included forming a crocodile as part of a bricolage project to decorate the bar-area with wood, and introducing a treasure-hunt for younger visitors. Overall, this was a fabulous, first wwoofer-experience. Thanks!
