Azienda agricola in Alta Valmarecchia
Rimini
-a volte baby-sitting (giocare, giocare, giocare...)
PS.
Faremo colazione, pranzo e cena tutti insieme.

We are a peculiar family and small community: me, my daughter, grandparents, italian and foreign neighbours, friends from a local community network... sometimes spread around, sometimes all together!
We have one male dog and two female cats: they are funny, cuddly and adventurous.... while the forest around is inhabited by wolfs, deers, boars, badgers, hares, porcupines... and snakes! (so better bring closed shoes!)
I started my countryside adventure on summer 2011, when I bought a piece of forest land on central Italy hills: a lot of trees, path walks and old stones.
I fell in love with Valmarecchia valley the first day I saw it, and I thought the land name was a kind of sign: in the local dialect, Boratoja means "with a good will"... in other words "for the ones who wants to trek" as the hill is quite steep!
The land has been abandoned since 60 years, so it is now a wild woods with the ruins of an old stone farmhouse.
I am running a small agricultural activity since 2015, growing biological aromatic herbs (mainly saffron, from Spring 2022 also Greek Fennel and other culinary/medicinal plants from which I harvest seeds and flowers).
If you want to learn basics of saffron growing, natural and biological agricolture, and some wild foraging, I can tell you all I know in exchange for some help with saffron harvesting (mid October - mid November, 4/5 hours per day), sowing and harvesting plants (Spring/Summer, 3/4 hours per day) and different tasks into the house/garden/woods (all the year long).
In the future I would love to have more rooms for hosting travellers and hopefully transform the solo job into a group activity. In the meanwhile I am working on different community projects with a very alive local association.
Seasonal tasks (1 or 2 weeks):
WINTER (jan/feb/mar) storage tyding up, tools/materials reparing, house manteinance (interiors).
SPRING (apr/may/jun) sowing new plants, collecting aromatic herbs (wild or cultivated), field and garden general manteinance (manual weeding, pruning, etc), house manteinance (exteriors).
SUMMER (jul/ago/sep) Saffron explantation and re-implantation (every three years), collecting aromatic herbs and wild fruits, field and garden general manteinance (manual weeding, watering, etc), preparing marmelades or juices from wild fruits and flowers.
AUTUMN (oct/nov/dic) Saffron harvesting and drying and packaging, garden general manteinance (fallen leaves, composting, ect), cutted wood tyding up.
All the year tasks:
-dog and cats necessities (food, water, walking)
-cooking for everybody, cleaning dishes
-cleaning common spaces (kitchen, bathroom, stairs...)
-sometimes baby caring (play, play, play...)
PS. At the moment I host only WOMEN, COUPLES or FAMILIES with children.
I can offer just one double/triple room or a big tent (2/4 places) in the garden.
We live 3km away from any food shop, so I provide all the food for our woofers.
We will have breakfast, lunch and dinner all together.
Since 2012 I have been hosting volunteers with several international networks (Workaway, Helpx, Bewelcome) you can find me as Sara-Valmarecchia and read many feedbacks.
Some interests of mine: photography, yoga and mindfulness, culinary/medicinale wild herbs, auto-production, training dogs, backpacker travelling (before having two dogs and a baby!), hispanic languages and cultures...
I can offer spanish conversation, while I would like to learn some Portuguese basics.
If you like to play music we have some instrument: piano, guitar, xilophone, flaute... and music for beginners ;)
Nearby you can have wonderful TREKKINGS on the hills/mountains (400/1.400mt) or HORSE ridings, you can visit medieval little towns (Sant'Agata Feltria, San Leo, Pennabilli... all reachable by local transports) or NATURAL PARKS... if you are obsessed from CLIMBING, you will love the rocks around Perticara (3.5 km far)!

April 2026
It was a wonderful, exciting, and educational week with Sara.
I felt right at home from the very beginning. Sara and her charming daughter are open, funny, very hospitable, and simply wonderful and inspiring people.
This was my second WWOOFing experience, and I enjoyed every moment. In the fields, shoveling snow, and in the kitchen… and in between, the lovely conversations, the fun games, and the warm laughter. I’ll miss them, and the sweet animals (Libero, Cleo, and Pirata)!
I’d love to come back… maybe when it’s a little warmer 😅.
I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart ❤️

I had a lovely time on Sara's farm. The work wasn't too challenging and varied a lot day to day which I enjoyed. We shared delicious healthy meals together and I was able to travel to a couple nearby towns with her. Overall, a very relaxing experience. :)

I had a great experience during my stay! The saffron harvesting period had ended a little earlier than expected so I helped out with various things like weeding the field and cleaning around the house.
I immediately felt welcomed by everyone and I came during a week where there was a local festival with music and dancing which was so fun to take part in. Sara took me around to see the area and made lovely fresh meals. The work hours were also very fair. Overall, it was a great opportunity to learn, help out, and spend time in the mountains.

This was our first time wwoofing and our experience could not have been better. We worked for 3,5 hours every day harvesting sunflowers and medicinal plants, doing some of the working hours inside due to the heat in August. While working, we also learned about plants and the Italian way of life and language. We were a part of the everyday life of the family, preparing and cooking meals together, which were healthy and yummy. In our free time, Sara showed us neighboring villages and the beautiful nature in the Emilia-Romagna. The location is stunning and quiet, but without a car it is hard to move around. One highlight was visiting a local concert in a castello nearby. We would love to come back to work and spend more time with Sara, her daughter and mother as well as her lovely pets :-)

We had a wonderful experience with Sara. She is a very welcoming person who loves her job. She enjoyed sharing her skills and knowledge about organic farming with us. We learned a lot from her. In addition, she often agreed to take us to villages near her home and introduce us to Italian culture. We definitely recommend this experience with her!

I had such an incredible week with Sara! From fun excursions (like concerts and local events) to learning about her farming methods and sustainability techniques, Sara has left an impact on my life. Her daughter, Sonia, is so sweet and silly, and Libero & Pirata are the cutest companions! I recommend this experience to anybody! Thank you for everything! Best of luck in the future :-)
