Mi chiamo Valeria, vivo in campagna insieme a mio marito Simone e ai miei cagnoloni: Lotto, Lillo, Diego, Zara, Raja e Strella. ---o----o-----0-----o----o--- My name is Valeria, I live in the countryside with my husband Simone and my big dogs: Lotto, Lillo, Diego, Zara, Raja and Strella. In 2019 I moved to my grandfather's old country house and farm, which I renovated and slowly started the process of transformation from a conventional farm to an organic farm and am slowly replacing some monocultures with consociated plants, and starting a process of agroforestry. I am a member of the Sicilian LeGallineFelici Consortium, that has a vision in which I reflect myself very much: A world in which women farmers and farmers, women workers and workers, female consumers and consumers, create, maintain and promote happy relationships. I have also recently finished renovations on part of the farm buildings that will be converted to a retail shop and room for education and tastings. I run the farm organically and practice minimum tillage for soil management. I am making a stormwater storage tank and new arboricultural installations. The next project is an educational vineyard, so I will have the pleasure of sharing my knowledge about the world of sustainable viticulture. WWOOFers will be guests in our house, they will have a room for their own use (maximum two people, double bed though!) or in good weather we can also set up tents and the big tipì tent in the garden and under the olive trees, we have a pitch available for campers as well (with power outlet, direct water connection and drainage of grey water only). Meals will be prepared together in the kitchen and are mainly traditional Sicilian vegetarian dishes. I love board games very much; you will find about 50 of them in the house for all to enjoy! There is a fantastic sea nearby (we are located at the southernmost tip of the Sicilian east coast (Punta Cirica, Marina Marza, Granelli) and only 20 minutes from the Vendicari Oriented Nature Reserve and 5 minutes from Pantano Cuba and Pantano Longarini where you can go birdwatching!

I loved staying at Netum. We where a lot of people staying at the same time but Valeria made sure there was a spot for everyone. We spend the sunny days preparing the soil for the veggies seedling and taking out weeds from the avocado field. Valeria was always doing her best to acomodate everyone and make sure that everyone is happy. She brought me to the station and back from Catania with my bike. We went hiking and visiting the nearest cities with the other wwoofers and Giuseppe, Valeria's employee and friend. I really enjoyed my time there and loved to cook for such a big team. I am really happy to know that I will be back there in a few weeks !

My partner and I spent a little less than three weeks at Valeria's Netum farm and we could not have hoped for a better place to start our Wwoofing experience in Italy. Prior to our arrival, Valeria told us we would be working on preparing the land for the vegetable garden (which mostly meant digging) and it was nice knowing what we were in for. Our schedule was flexible though and we also took part in other activities such as weeding in the avocado field, repairing the irrigation system in the orange fields, trimming vines, preparing seedlings... We really appreciated this diversity of tasks and how we could always talk about which one to carry out depending on our physical state, weather etc. Life at the farm was sweet and peaceful, surrounded by nature, the dogs and lovely people. A huge thanks to Valeria for her generosity, open-mindedness, intelligence and care. You truly are a force a nature and it was a privilege to be part of your project.

The host’s farm is like a dream. Valeria is a visionary and is passionate about everything she makes and grows. My wife got a chance to learn about making soap and cosmetic products, which she loved. Work in March for us meant helping prepare pots for future plants, planting seedlings, trimming orange trees, harvesting the last of the avocados and oranges, and prepping beds for planting. It’s good work that leaves you feeling accomplished at the end of the day. In our off time we had plenty of chances to explore around the farm, and got to see the ocean, Ragusa, and Ispica. Other times, lounging in the sun chairs and taking a nap was the call! There are lots of board games, and both Valeria and her husband are avid gamers. They go out of their way to make sure your experience at their farm is a good one. Two weeks was hardly enough time! We felt like family and wish we could have stayed longer. We will always remember and cherish our time here, and miss all the dogs so much. Loto, sweet Loto! We highly recommend this farm.

Netum is a place you have to experience otherwise it’s difficult to describe the feeling you get once your there. In between of many orange, lemon, mandarin and olive trees, Valeria invites you into her life with their 6 lovely dogs. I can highly recommend the farm!! The work is very fair and Valeria takes good care of you not to overwork. In the afternoon we were free to relax around the farm, play with Loto (you will loooove him) or even grab the car and went to the sea. You can truly see Valeria’s passion and all the effort she puts into the farm. She is doing sooo much and maybe you have the chance to help her doing the soaps, join her Lindy Hop Dance class or she is willing to show you around Ispica. Valeria always asked what we need for cooking but we mostly ate together and had incredibly good meals!! The freshly made Lasagna was unforgettable. I will miss singing and dancing around the orange trees, playing lots of games, jamming with Valeria and the wwoofers, having organgejuice available all time and strolling around the farm with the dogs. I had an incredible good time and wished I could have stayed longer!!! Grazie mille 🫶

I stayed at Valerias farm for about ten days and I had a really, really good time. I think Valeria is one of the best hosts you can get. I thought the work was very fair and Valeria always made sure we don’t overwork ourselves. If the work was physically demanding, we only did that for like an hour or so and did something really easy afterwards. Unfortunately I got really sick during my stay, and Valeria was really nice about it and suggested I take a day off and after that I did only really light work. You can eat from all the delicious avocados and oranges in her kitchen and she makes really delicious wine. She buys you everything from the grocery store that you ask for, so you can cook anything you want and make yourself feel at home. During the time off we could always take a car to go places and on the weekends she always suggested really cool activities to do and showed us round the area. With her help I definitely learned a lot about the area that I otherwise wouldn’t have learned! She showed us round some towns, I got to meet her family and friends, we visited a really cool canyon, … I think Valeria took really good care of us and I felt really safe, comfortable and happy on her farm. Thank you Valeria and everyone on the farm <3

I can't find the words to describe my three-month stay and the incredible warmth of the people at Netum. Here, I found a second family and would love to praise every single person and dog I got to know during my stay, but that's impossible. So I'll keep it short and say: Grazie infinite. Netum is a sacred place. The people and dogs here are angels. Valeria, her family and friends, the Wwoofers I saw come and go, will always be in my heart. ❤️ This is the place where you become part of the ecosystem of love and pure joy grows within you along with the orange trees. And once you've been here, embraced by the sun and wind of Sicily, you are part of Netum. Forever. 🐾 Amunì to change your life for the better 🐾 ;)
