---o----o-----0-----o----o--- La Valle is a small family farm with a farm holiday. The farm is from the 1800s, and my son and I have been working for over 10 years to renovate our part and revive it. We grow olive trees, saffron, vegetables and produce honey. Cleo and Blu our shepherd dogs, chickens and cats live with us. We start our day early in the morning and follow the rhythms of nature, depending on the seasons, we take care of pruning, tidying the crops, planting and harvesting. Our beloved bees, on the other hand, require care mainly in spring and summer. We can accommodate a woofer, and he/she will have his/her own private room. He will share the rest of the day with family and guests at our small farm. The valley is only 1.5 km from the village, which is also within walking distance and very lively. The center and surrounding area are rich in modern art, exhibits and museums. There is no shortage of nature trails. Volterra, Florence, Pisa and Lucca are easily reached by public transportation.

My first WWOOFing experience was definitely an unforgettable one. During these two weeks, I learned more about organic farming, Italian culture and cuisine, running an agriturismo, catering and much more. Viviana is incredibly knowledgeable and always happy to share what she knows. Every day she prepared amazing lunches and dinners (already missing them). Each day was different, and the tasks varied depending on what needed to be done. A day could be: starting the morning with breakfast in the sun, collecting the chicken eggs, watering the vegetable garden, picking fruits, helping clean the guest room, making ice cream or going grocery shopping with Viviana. In the afternoons, I could have some time to relax, and in the evenings we always enjoyed dinner together. The farm is about a 30–40 minute walk from Peccioli. However, both Viviana and Matteo were very thoughtful and always willing to give me a ride to Peccioli or the train station whenever needed. At the weekends, Matteo showed me some wonderful places in Tuscany. We visited the coast, beautiful waterfalls and places that I probably would never have discovered on my own. Groetjes and thank you, Viviana, Matteo and Luisella for my time at La Valle!!!

Viviana’s was the most magical experience that afforded me the chance to breathe and reconnect with nature after feeling burnt out from work. I also wanted to get a sense for farming, which I’d never done, and I now have a huge appreciation for just how much work and love goes into producing food and caring for the land. I stayed for 15 days, and truly learnt to work with nature, and take time to do things carefully and properly, but not overexert myself. Something about hearing nothing but the birds, bees, and wind rustling in the trees and being surrounded by the cats, chickens and baby Blu helps give you a new perspective on life and forces you to sit and admire the beauty of nature, even when elbows deep in dirt. I mainly helped dig up saffron bulbs and peel them, which I found incredibly peaceful and felt a huge sense of achievement when it was finally completed, but also got to help Viviana clean fruit for her jam and ice cream (which is some of my favourite ice cream I’ve ever had) and help clean the agriturismo. I was spoilt with Viviana’s cooking, she is a wizard with how she can take such simple quality ingredients and make it some of the tastiest meals you will ever eat. Although only there for a short while, Viviana was gracious in dropping me at the bus stop on Saturdays so I could explore the surrounding areas, and on Sundays the local town is the absolute sweetest, with gorgeous hikes and ice cream. Thank you Viviana for everything ⭐️⭐️

Grazie mille.

I really enjoyed my time at La Valle. The farm is set in a peaceful, picturesque spot near the village of Peccioli. During the day, you are surrounded by two dogs, chickens, and cats, which makes it feel very homey. Since it rained quite a bit while I was there, most of the work was indoors. I mostly helped with painting and a bit of tidying. On sunny days, we spent time outside, getting the garden ready for spring. Viviana takes great care of you, cooks delicious Tuscan meals, and even takes you along on shopping trips or local visits. Evenings and weekends are free, so you can explore the nearby village or cities like Lucca and Volterra. For me, it was a wonderfully relaxing experience. Just keep in mind that besides the working it is pure country life, quiet and very peaceful.
