Ciao! Sono Riccardo, ho 22 anni e vivo a Epinel, un piccolo villaggio alpino a 1.472 m slm nel comune di Cogne (AO), nel cuore del Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso.
Il mio progetto nasce da un amore profondo per gli animali, la montagna e la vita semplice e concreta. Ho creato un piccolo centro di turismo equestre dove organizzo gite in carrozza, trekking a cavallo e attività rurali, coinvolgendo muli, cavalli e chiunque voglia dare una mano e sporcarsi le mani con gioia.
Sono quasi laureato in Produzione e gestione degli animali in allevamento e selvatici, in pratica so tante cose su bestie di ogni tipo, e qualcuna anche su come farle convivere in pace.
A casa con me vive mio padre Pier Giorgio, che a primo impatto di carattere può sembrare un orso (non nel senso biologico - anche se a volte lo sospettiamo): burbero fuori, ma pieno di sapere artigiano e di curiosità.
Inoltre, troverai:
- i miei inseparabili muli e cavalli, veri maestri di pazienza;
- una banda di galline variopinte, ognuna con una personalità ben precisa;
- tre oche
- un gruppetto umano in evoluzione: amici, ospiti, viaggiatori e volontari che passano, restano, ritornano.
Il progetto è in continua trasformazione: ogni stagione porta nuove sfide, nuove idee e, spesso, qualche palo da piantare o recinto da sistemare. Se ti piacciono le montagne, gli animali e le giornate che iniziano col profumo del fieno... qui potresti sentirti a casa. La nostra vita agricola è piccola, concreta, stagionale e un po’ poetica. Non troverai ettari da arare, ma tanta terra da amare, accudire, sistemare. Cosa facciamo (più o meno tutto l’anno)? :
- Cura di muli, cavalli e galline: pulizia, cibo, coccole, e ogni tanto convincerli gentilmente a collaborare.
- Gestione pollaio: lettiere, raccolta uova, osservazione delle galline (sono così belle che vale la pena passare ore a contemplarle).
- Manutenzione spazi esterni: recinzioni, sentieri, legna da accatastare, sistemazione recinto galline, balle di fieno da trasportare.
A casa nostra i WWOOFER vengono ospitati in una stanza con bagno privato all'interno del nostro centro; essenziale ma accogliente, con letto comodo, bagno privato e tutto il necessario per riposare dopo una giornata tra animali e paesaggi alpini. Forniamo lenzuola e asciugamani.
Nota onesta ma importante: la stanza ha una piccola finestra che si affaccia su una stanza interna alla casa, pertanto non ha sbocchi diretti all’esterno; in compenso è tranquilla, asciutta e silenziosa (zero spifferi e nessuna gallina che canta all’alba). Se sei una persona adattabile e spirito da rifugio, probabilmente la apprezzerai. Se invece ti serve la luce del giorno al risveglio, possiamo parlarne e valutare soluzioni alternative.
I pasti si consumano insieme, in modo conviviale; ci si aiuta a turno nella preparazione, in modo che ognuno dia il suo contributo e contemporaneamente permetta a qualcun altro di godere prima della cena di una bella doccia calda. La cucina è casalinga, stagionale, spesso vegetariana ma non esclusivamente. se hai allergie, intolleranze o preferenze alimentari, ne parliamo e ci adattiamo volentieri. Nessun giudizio, solo piatti condivisi.
Il bello di vivere a Cogne, nel cuore del Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, è che la natura è dietro la porta. Ecco cosa potresti fare:
- Escursioni: dai semplici sentieri nei boschi ai trekking più lunghi come il Rifugio Vittorio Sella o le Cascate di Lillaz.
- Passeggiate a cavallo (se vuoi, anche col mulo!): organizziamo gite tutto l’anno.
- Ciaspolate e camminate sulla neve in inverno, tra cervi, silenzi e alberi ghiacciati.
- Sci di fondo: Cogne è famosa per le sue piste panoramiche.
- Relax: se preferisci stare tranquillo, c’è tempo per letture lente, tè caldi e conversazioni davanti alla stufa.

Hi there! I’m Riccardo, 22 years old, and I live in Épinel, a small alpine village at 1,472 meters above sea level, in the municipality of Cogne (Aosta Valley), right in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
My project was born from a deep love for animals, the mountains, and a simple, hands-on way of life. I’ve created a small equestrian tourism center where I organize carriage rides, horseback trekking, and rural activities. Anyone willing to pitch in and get their hands dirty with joy is welcome!
I’m nearly done with my degree in the field of Animal Production and Management, which means I know a fair bit about all kinds of creatures.
At home, I live with my dad Pier Giorgio. He might seem a bit gruff at first, but he’s full of old-school knowledge and curiosity.
At our place, you’ll also meet:
-my inseparable mules and horses—true masters of patience;
-a colourful flock of hens, each with a strong personality;
-three geese;
-and a constantly evolving human crew: friends, guests, travelers, and volunteers who come, stay, and often return.
This project is always evolving: every season brings new challenges, new ideas, and often a fence to fix or a post to plant. If you love real mountains, genuine animals, and days that start with the scent of hay, you might feel right at home here.
Our rural life is small-scale, hands-on, seasonal, and a bit poetic. You won’t find acres of farmland to plow, but there’s plenty of land to care for and nurture. What do we do (more or less all year round)?
-Care for the mules, horses, and hens: cleaning, feeding, cuddling—and sometimes gently persuading them to cooperate.
-Chicken coop management: changing bedding, collecting eggs, and observing the hens (they’re so beautiful it’s worth watching them for hours).
-Outdoor maintenance: fixing fences and trails, stacking firewood, securing the hen run, hauling hay bales.
WWOOFers stay in a private room with a private bathroom, located within our little equestrian center. It’s simple but cozy, with a comfortable bed, hot shower, and all the basics for relaxing after a day with animals and alpine landscapes. We provide sheets and towels.
Honest but important note: the room has a small window that looks into another room inside the house, so it doesn’t get direct sunlight or outdoor views. That said, it’s dry, quiet, and completely draft-free (plus, no hens singing at sunrise!). If you’re adaptable and enjoy a mountain refuge vibe, you’ll probably like it. But if you really need daylight to wake up, we can talk and figure something else out.
Meals are shared and convivial; we take turns cooking so everyone can contribute and also enjoy a hot shower before dinner. The food is homemade, seasonal, and often vegetarian (but not exclusively). If you have allergies, intolerances, or preferences, we’ll gladly adjust—no judgment, just shared plates.
One of the best parts of living in Cogne, at the heart of Gran Paradiso National Park, is having nature right outside your door. Here’s what you can enjoy:
-Hikes: from easy forest paths to more ambitious treks like the Vittorio Sella Refuge or the Lillaz Waterfalls.
-Horseback rides (even with mules, if you like!): we organize rides all year round.
-Winter walks among deer, silence, and frost-covered trees.
-Cross-country skiing: Cogne is famous for its scenic trails.
-And of course, relaxing: there’s time for slow reading, warm teas, and good chats by the wood stove.

The best accomodation so far.
Very good standards on housing and food.
The work itself is in summertime more horse related then in autumn/winter time. That is good to know.
More time for outdoor activities outisde the high season.
Riccardo is able to give good and clear updates what needs to be done.
A tip:
It is good to meet each others expectations before.

Vivere per circa 15 giorni qui è stata un’esperienza incredibilmente immersiva, in un contesto naturale a dir poco bello. Le attività si sono svolte senza la pressione di dover rispettare degli orari rigorosi, seguendo le finestre metereologiche giorno dopo giorno e confrontandosi sull’organizzazione. È stato possibile dividersi il lavoro per avere del tempo libero. Con la fine del periodo più intenso dell’estate, i principali lavori che ho svolto hanno riguardato l’accudire le stupende galline, le oche un po’ dispettose, fare e disfare i recinti per i cavalli per fargli avere sempre dell’erba fresca da sgranocchiare. I fine settimana, invece, si sono occupati con le prenotazioni dei giri turistici a cavallo. Sono bastati pochi giorni per sentirmi parte di questa attività. Riccardo è un ragazzo gentile ed estremamente ospitale e disponibile, con una sensibilità preziosa, che ti trasmette con poco la passione per quello che fa. Ho apprezzato molto la fiducia che mi ha dato nello svolgere alcuni compiti.
E anche da Pier, nonostante le sue poche parole e qualche momento di spazientimento, ho avuto modo di ascoltare consigli, storie sulla Valle e sulla fauna che la abita. Ho anche avuto la fortuna di condividere parte del mio wwoofing con una persona speciale, con cui la sera, con una tisana calda tra le mani e gli occhi puntati verso il cielo pieno di stelle, ho condiviso racconti e silenzi.
Ringrazio di cuore “Le Traineau” e spero di poter tornare presto a trovare tutti!

Riccardo warmly welcomed me into his beautifully located home, where he lives with his father Pier, several chickens, and three geese. He's a funny and kind person, great to have around and easy to get along with.
We fed the chickens and geese, and took care of the horse and mules. Other tasks included cleaning and greasing Pier’s leather equipment. When working with Pier, it’s a good idea to double-check what he wants, otherwise you might end up redoing things because it wasn’t quite how he imagined it ;) He doesn’t speak English, but with my basic Italian and the help of Google Translate, communication still worked quite well. He’s also a generous man and enjoys having conversations.
In my free time, I was able to go on some beautiful walks and hikes in the surrounding mountains.
Working with Riccardo was a great experience. He explains things clearly and in a friendly, understandable way. We also enjoyed spending time together outside of work, whether going for a walk, playing table football, sharing meals sometimes, or singing together in the car. Thanks for introducing me to some Italian songs.
It was a real pleasure staying at your place!

I really enjoyed my stay at the farm. I only stayed for one week. We started in the morning around 8:45 after we had breakfast with the chickens and then we were going to Lillaz to work with the goats. Cleaning them and going for a walk was a very satisfying work for me. Even though we had to move the fence everyday , but the landscape was just stunning. The other workers there were also really cute! I enjoyed working with them.
Unfortunately the relationship between the father and the son isn’t that good and also talking to the father was hard. He didn’t understand, and the way how he talked sometimes wasn’t that friendly. But sometimes we were having lunch/ dinner or a cafe/ beer after work with him which was really nice.

La mia esperienza è stata sicuramente positiva. Paesaggi mozzafiato, splendidi animali da accudire e persone genuine! Ho avuto la fortuna di passare una settimana al centro di turismo "Le Traineau" ed è stato indimenticabile! Alice e Riccardo sono stati disponibili per qualunque necessità, sia per quanto riguarda la sfera lavorativa che non. Sono molto simpatici e in più ho imparato parecchie cose nuove grazie a loro!
Sono stati sette giorni piacevoli e consiglio questa esperienza a chiunque, anche a chi non ha mai avuto l'occasione di lavorare in questi ambienti!

La nostra esperienza con Riccardo, Alice e Pier è stata molto positiva. Da subito ci siamo sentiti accolti e integrati; Sono stati tutti molto disponibili e gentili nello spiegare le attività da svolgere. Lavorare con i cavalli è stato molto bello e coinvolgente e ci ha fatto piacere notare che sono trattati con rispetto e amore. L’impegno richiesto era adeguato e non stressante, infatti abbiamo avuto anche la possibilità di fare altre attività al di fuori del wwoofing. Consigliamo assolutamente di fare l’esperienza di wwoofing con la squadra di “Le Traineau”..non ve ne pentirete!!🥰
