Savona

We have a small organic farm, run by two sisters who are no longer young but are tenacious in carrying on the recovery of the land: we are working hard in restoring drystone walls and with the maintenance of sheds and workshops. We grow fruit trees and have a vegetable garden. The work we have done in recent years is beginning to show rewards with a fair return of vegetables, artichokes and fruit this year. We also hope to have a good olive harvest this year. There are occasionally friends and relatives who come here and are willing to give us a hand when it is needed. Our welcome to you will be on the same line of conviviality, respect and participation, and we ask for your collaboration in the work we do. We focus on seasonal jobs with others on maintenance jobs such as collecting stones for the drystone walls. It would be very nice to have females here and also people who are not so young but are well-motivated. In your free time, in addition to the fantastic nature which surround us, there is the sea with lovely beaches (Blue Flag accredited) a few minutes away by bus, and a culturally rich Liguria with countless opportunities. Guests will be accommodated in the large tavern, from whose six windows you can see the small valley where the stream runs and where the goats go to drink. The languages spoken in addition to the Italian, are Spanish and a bit of French. Unfortunately I do not speak English.
This 2 ha farm is 2 km from the sea on the slopes of the albenganesi hills. Since 1982 we have farmed the land using Fukuokas methods without using chemicals or machines. Our family is made up of Dario (1955), Laura (1961), Alice (1992), Bosco (1996) and Noel (2001). We share all our activities with our guests, cultivation and processing of our produce, herding the goats, care of animals (sheep, chickens, dogs, cats), maintenance jobs of various types, walks, swim in the sea or river (in the summer), evenings with friends. The cuisine is simple, wholesome, mainly vegetarian and we use very few products from large distributors, it is very important to us that WWOOFers share this kind of diet. From April to September you can walk barefoot because all the paths are suitable for this. We also welcome families with children, but by prior agreement. The space where we host WWOOFers is isolated from the houses (approximately 100 meters), does not have electricity and can not be locked. We do not host WWOOFers in the period from Dec. 1 Feb. 28 because we are in hibernation, but from March 1 throughout the spring and summer there are plenty of things to do. For nearly 20 years we have lived following the principles of “decrescita felice”. Life here it's very rustic and we do not use a watch. We do not have a refrigerator, TV, computer, internet, video games, therefore, recommend people who want an experience of the wildlife, coexisting with mosquitoes, flies, spiders, birds etc. Please do not bring computers, we do not use toilet paper, smoking outside only. It is possible to charge just a mobile. A little English and a few words of French spoken. It is better if you speak a little Italian at least. Contact: Laura
