Summer List
I work on the 'well-being' of my farm, based on respect, which extends over 7 ha on a hill between two rivers, with a plateau from which you can admire the sea, about 5 km away, and the mountains about 15 km. The farm is partly scrubland, devoted to the grazing of a small flock of sheep, and partly planted with fruit trees, olive trees etc. There is also a small area devoted to the cultivation of vegetables, all grown using organic techniques. The main activity is beekeeping; working with bees has made me part of their hardworking world and their way of life, in which the act of the individual contributes to the welfare of the whole community, as it is or should be also in human society. The desire to share this reality has led me to start, this year, an agritourism. Living and working to realise a dream, this is the goal of my farm. If you feel in tune with this reality and you want to collaborate, you will be very welcome. I speak English, French, Spanish.
Summer List
We are a small family: Michele, father, Emilio and Luana, the son with his girlfriend, Rosaria, the aunt who lives in a detached house and Amalia the daughter who sometimes comes home. We live in a rural area not far from Cosenza (10km); although we all dedicate ourselves to something, we cultivate a great passion for the land, where we spend a lot of our time. We aim to grow food for self sufficiency sell the surplus, we have a synergic vegetable garden, a vegetable garden, olive and fruit trees. We plan to plant a food forest and grow cereals. Activities cover, practices and rituals that keep our house alive, from the management of the vegetable production, making bread and preserves making tools. We can accommodate up to 2 people practically all year round, accommodation is in a shared room. For meals we are all different: Emilio is vegan, Luana and Michele are vegetarians, Rosaria eats everything; however meals tend to be vegan / vegetarian; usually we eat at least one meal a day together. Emilio and Luana speak English and Spanish, Rosaria speaks a bit of French, we speak the local dialect when we are in the garden.
Our family run farm has been in the family for over 50 years. The love for the land, for seasonal fruit and local produce have made the whole family promote this territory and enjoy the best fruits that it can offer. A rich and fertile land, it is caressed by breezes from the Ionian Sea which we overlook and mitigated by warm winds from the south. The farm is immersed in the ‘grecanica dell’Aspromonte’ area, a few kilometers from the sea. On the more than 5 hectares of land there are about 400 olive trees, a vineyard, fruit trees, a large vegetable garden, stables and a workshop for making preserves and storing tools. There are also two wood burning ovens, adjacent to the family house, one for making bread and one for pizza. The wwoofers are hosted and welcomed into the family home and will be involved in helping with growing, harvesting and processing of fruit, with making bread and organic preserves.
I live in this beautiful place with my 17 year old disabled son Gregorio, our friend Carlo and Francesco. It is situated in the Diamante hills at an altitude of 150 m. There are wonderful views of the sea in one direction and mountains full of wildlife in the other. The house a large (3 floors) with 7 has of land surrounding it. The house and land had been abandoned up until 3 years ago for over 10 years. We have recuperated olive trees, a vineyard, fruit trees, prickly pear, figs and started a synergic vegetable garden and made the place habitable again. We are experimenting building with straw bales. We have done a lot of work but there is still a lot more to do including caring for the animals! We have donkeys, dogs, chickens and a cat to care for. We also have a leather workshop. We have started meditation activities with the donkeys, and courses to promote communication between the world of 'able' and less able people in a natural way, and we also promote a new kind of sustainable lifestyle (see photos on Facebook). Accommodation in room, meals vegetarian and organic.
Hello I am Francesco: after traveling for 13 years around the world working as a chef, I decided and I felt the desire to return to Calabria to devote myself to my land, carry on the traditions of our country and live in contact with nature . My parents have always had animals such as pigs from which we make salami and other typical products; we raise sheep, hens, rabbits and take care of the vegetable garden also making preserves such as aubergines in oil, mushrooms, courgettes and other vegetables; as well as tomato sauce. We also harvest the olives and figs, also worked using traditional methods Our family lives almost exclusively of our products. The farm is located in the hills about 7 km from Cosenza: the wwoofers are hosted throughout the year in an apartment near the farm or in a tree house built by us. Lunch will be shared when with me with the whole family while for dinner everything will be provided but autonomy in cooking is required because I will still be busy with my work as a cook and my mother is involved in the care of my grandmother. I do not require particular experience only good manners, respect and the desire to do things!
