Reggio Calabria

This is a family run farm which has been in our family for 50 years. Our love for the land, for seasonal fruit and local produce has bought the whole family to appreciate the value of the farm and to enjoy the best produce that we can grow. The land is rich and fertile, with gentle breezes from the Ionian Sea which it overlooks. The farm is a few kms from the sea in the Aspromonte. On over 5 has of land there are about 400 olive trees, a vineyard, fruit trees, a large vegetable garden, stables and outbuildings for storing produce and tool sheds. There are also two wood burning ovens next to the house, one for baking bread and one for pizza. WWOOFers will be hosted in the family home and will be involved in the activities of growing, harvesting fruit, baking organic bread and making preserves.
We are an intentional community (5 adults, 6 children and a dog) who since the beginning of 2016, have lived on 5 hectares, with olives and oaks, and also fruit trees and a vegetable garden. We are inspired by the principles of permaculture. Our lifestyle is spartan. The work follows the seasons (vegetable, wood, harvesting and processing of fruits such as olives, figs, pears ...), but is also marked by our needs (improvement of common living spaces ...) and our passions (our children, participation in local networks, convivial moments ...). We are pursuing a libertarian education project. We are about 2 km from the village. At this time we can only accommodate someone is happy to be in the tent or has his camper / trailer. Our food is mainly vegetarian, but occasionally we consume meat. We're all Italians, can speak English and Spanish. If you want to share your energy with us, we look forward to meeting you!
This is a project oriented to the principles of permaculture that arises from the desire to take care and revalorize a secular olive grove / citrus grove left abandoned for 20 years. We do not use any pesticides or chemical fertilizers, we try to protect biodiversity using natural methods and we are converting the orchard into a food forest with subtropical elements (avocadi, banana, annoni ..). We host in a tent on a land near the house where we live and the campground is very basic: compost toilet, roof with solar panel, cooking stove and outdoor solar shower. So it's a place for very adaptable people who loves being in nature. It is not a tourist area and is not well served by public transport. The nearest village is Bovalino Marina within walking distance in about 20 minutes with bars, shops and a beach. Although we like to share meals, having a newborn baby, we do not have much time to cook lately so meals are not officially included in the exchange. To come and help us you can contact us via whatsapp. See you soon!
