Nel cuore degli appennini tosco-emiliano a 970 m s.l.m. ,cerchiamo di vivere in armonia con la montagna, il bosco e tra di noi.
Facciamo parte della comunità degli Elfi,e siamo un gruppo di persone di differenti età.
Coltiviamo la terra con metodi naturali e abbiamo due vacche, galline, tre gatti e tutti gli inquilini del bosco come vicini e ospiti.
Il nostro è un villaggio in continua evoluzione e ci occupiamo di molte faccende puntando all'autosufficienza:costruzioni in pietra, legno, paglia e argilla; raccolta della legna per uso quotidiano e per l'inverno; costruzione e manutenzione di recinzioni per l'orticoltura; mantenimento dell'orto e preparazione conserve e marmellate; cura e gestione degli animali e delle loro risorse.
Per tutto questo abbiamo bisogno d'aiuto durante tutto l'anno escluso l'inverno,con lavori che variano stagionalmente.
La sistemazione è in stanza comune o tenda propria.
Pasti principalmente vegetariani e anche vegani con verdure autoprodotte e cereali biologici.
Abbiamo una compost toilet, altrimenti andiamo nel bosco.
A 8km dalla civiltà, il nostro è un gruppo unito da una scelta di vita semplice, con amore, contrasti, allegria e voglia di fare festa(come nelle periodiche feste della Luna piena). Siamo in effetti grandi amanti della Danza, soprattutto il balfolk,e quasi ogni domenica invitiamo persone per ballare tutti assieme...oppure balliamo noi.
In estate c'è un gran passaggio di amici e conoscenti da tutto il mondo.
Parliamo italiano, inglese, tedesco e un po' di francese e spagnolo.
Ciò che noi offriamo è un'esperienza diretta,forse un po' caotica, della vita di comune in fattoria che noi tutti viviamo.
Amiamo dedicarci al nostro villaggio in modi diversi, e ne condividiamo i periodi leggeri e quelli impegnativi con chiunque sia nostro ospite,perciò, quel che chiediamo ai volontari, è appunto pa flessibilità necessaria ad immergersi nelle molte attività con cui tutti riempiamo la giornata in base alle necessità stagionali. In pratica offriamo il nostro stile di vita così come loviviamo,senza troppe alterazioni,ma ovviamente è per noi fondamentale comunicare es essere informati su qualsivoglia dinamica poco chiara o complessa al fine di accogliere i cari ospiti ancora meglio ogni volta.

In the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines at 970 m above sea level. we try to live in harmony with the mountains, the woods and each other.
We are part of the community of the Elves, and we are a group of people of different ages.
We cultivate the land with natural methods and we have two cows, chickens,three cats and all the wood-dwellers as neighbours and hosts.
Ours is a village in continuous evolution and we take care of many chores aiming at self-sufficiency: constructions in stone, wood, straw and clay; wood collection for daily use and for winter; construction and maintenance of fences for horticulture; vegetable garden maintenance and preparation of preserves and jams; care and management of animals and their resources.
For all this we need help throughout the year except winter,on a seasonal base for specific tasks.
Accommodation is in common room or own tent.
Meals are mainly vegetarian and also vegan with self-produced vegetables and organic cereals.
We have a compost toilet, otherwise we go to the woods.
At 8km from civilization, ours is a group united by a simple choice of life, with love, contrasts, joy and desire to party (as in the periodic festivals of the full moon).
We actually love Dance,expecially folk,and we gather people almost every sunday to dance all together...or even only by ourselves.
In summer there is a great passage of friends and acquaintances from all over the world.
We speak Italian, English, German and a little French and Spanish.
What we offer is a direct, perhaps a little chaotic, experience of the communal life on the farm that we all live. We love to dedicate ourselves to our village in different ways, and we share the light and busy periods with whoever is our guest, therefore, what we ask of the volunteers is the flexibility to dive with good will in the many activities with which we all fill the day based on to seasonal needs,watching,asking,learning.
In practice we offer our lifestyle as it is for us,but obviously it is essential to communicate and be informed about any unclear or complex dynamics in order to welcome our dear guests even better every time.
We really try to be the best version of ourselves.

I was only able to be at Aldaia for a little over a week, but I truly enjoyed my time there. Everyone was welcoming and happy to get me more involved in the community. My Italian has much room to be improved, but everyone put in the effort to speak to me in English. Although, I would suggest having at least a minimum understanding of Italian, so you can engage more in group conversations. The work was very fair and I never felt pressured to do anything I didn’t want to or felt overworked. I would be happy to go back my next time in Italy for a longer time!

Ho passato 7 giorni ad Aldaia, e mi sono trovata a mio agio. A quasi 1000 metri in montagna, nel mezzo del bosco di castagne c’è una vera pace e tranquillità. Mi piace anche il modo di vivere semplice e la filosofia della communità degli Elfi. Finalmente ho trovato delle persone che pensano al mondo come io. Ho lavorato insieme ad altri ragazzi: abbiamo tolto i rovi con la zappa dal campo di fieno, abbiamo raccolto le foglie secce, abbiamo vangato nell’ orto e abbiamo preparato il terreno per le semine, abbiamo svuotato il compost toilet e abbiamo portato il compost agli alberi da frutto. Ringrazio a Romano e Maeve per tutto quello che mi hanno fatto vedere in casa, nell’ orto, alle galline e alle mucche. Ringrazio a Romano per i vari piatti di verdura, il suono della chitarra e i balli di domenica sera. Un abbraccio speciale a Margherita e Artur. (Per scendere allo statale in piedi con calma ci vuole almeno un ora e mezza a chi non conosce bene il posto.)

Stare all’Aldaia è stato come fare un breve viaggio, ricco di stimoli e di continui incontri.
Non è facile trovare le parole adatte per raccontare il loro mondo, mi hanno mostrato che ci sono tanti modi di vivere e sta a noi scegliere come farlo, vi assicuro che se avete un cuore aperto, voglia di esplorare quanto la terra può darvi e di capire come abbiamo disimparato a vivere in modo semplice questo è il posto giusto.
C’è sempre qualcosa da fare, se avete voglia di aiutare imparerete davvero tante cose, come fare il formaggio, l’orto o la costruzione della casa. Ovviamente i lavori variano in base al periodo.
Spero che anche voi riusciate a trarre il meglio da questa esperienza, tornerete (se tornerete) dall’Aldaia con più consapevolezza e forse anche più tristezza per come è poco umana la vita una volta scesi.
Infinitamente grata di essere stata per un po’ di giorni tra questi artisti e di essere stata accolta in modo così caloroso, il mio cuore è pieno di gioia a pensare che ci siano persone come loro. È stata un’inaspettata bellissima sorpresa ☀️

Wow, it is difficult to bring the words to describe Aldaia and my experience in this place of Elves. If you are truly interested in living in community or building one, this is the real thing. It is as close to real life as is possible in our current world, a place where land and people are almost one and the same. A place where your edges will blur and your feet will be dirty. I will miss you all, and cannot express the learning, the changes and the deep joy I experienced in my time with all of you.

Aldaia was magic and an amazing experience. I was able to explore different dynamics of living in a community with different people, coming and going. All ages and various ways of thinking. Dancing, creating, working in the garden, cooking, playing music, discovering places and traditions of the valley. The nature around is truly magic, and is inspiring for so much more than you can expect.
Nadir was super caring and always available for any need you can have. Great place to learn some italian too !
Very grateful my path came across the elves community, will definitely return :)
