****************************** Our farmhouse is located in the countryside of Castel Giorgio, a small town between Lake Bolsena and Orvieto, within a farmhouse where the owners have been running a beekeeping business for 40 years. I'm Francesco, and after ten years in the Bagnoregio Valley, where—like Matilde Coltiva—we hosted dozens of people from around the world, I moved here in 2025 following the peaceful separation from the mother of my 8-year-old daughter Semilla, who lives with me on alternate weeks. From a producer of vegetables, olive oil, eggs and pork, I reinvented myself as a farmhand on a couple of farms, without sacrificing the food production for our own subsistence. We have a vegetable garden, chickens and pigs, in addition to the various pets on the farm. All our produce is organic: we use market gardening and organic & regenerative agriculture methods. I was the founder and an active member for years of the Comunità Rurale Diffusa, a group of people who live in the same area and have chosen to live in the countryside, far from the noise of the city and a little more sheltered from the lights of metropolitan society. This community, less active today but still present in our lives, supports my desire to be not a company, but simply life. We enjoy hosting people who want to share our daily lives, exchange experiences, help us, learn about gardening, or, more generally, how to live on a farm. Guests can stay in a double room, a tent or a camper. Depending on the season, we ask for various kinds of help, particularly with managing the garden and animals, processing food, and producing wood for the stove. But, as we all know, in the countryside there's always a bit of everything to do!

I had an amazing experience with Francesco and his family. They were very welcoming and nice. The work was fairly hard mainly cause it was so hot but it was interesting to learn things about the farm life. I stayed in the cutest little treehouse during my stay which was something to tick off the bucket list. I’d definitely recommend staying with them at their farm!

I can’t recommend Matilde Coltiva enough - I had an amazing time here, learning tons about vegetable farming and animal care. I even got to help build a small dam and a compost toilet! Francesco, Fede and Semilla were incredibly welcoming and made me feel at home, with amazing home cooked meals, and inviting me along for social outings (I got to go to Francesco’s band Res Crac’s gigs, which were tons of fun!) Semilla is incredibly sweet, really fun to hang out with, and also helped me improve my Italian a lot. Grazie mille to all of you, this was a life changing experience!

WWOOFing in this place was all me and my friend could dream of and more. Every day was a new adventure, full of laugh, fascinating conversetions and gaining knowledge. We truely felt like a part of family and definitely won't ever forget my stay there. We can say, without a doubt, that our 3 weeks at Matilde Coltiva were one of the best experience in our lives and we treasure every memories we made there. There were a lot of work to do, however it weren't heavy, exhausting tasks, but pleasant garden dutes. We also tasted so many amazing home-made food and drinks while staying there. We can't even put in the words how greatful we are, that we were able to visit Matilde Coltiva, get to know Francesco, Fede, and Semilla and share this time with them. We highly reccoment wwoofing here! Lot of kisses from PGs!

I felt lucky to have a fortnight WWOOFing here. So much to learn and to be inspired by on and off the farm. Long hours of work but rewarded with the best food and company. A real treat to be welcomed into such a lovely home. Grazie mille!

Spending two weeks at Matilde Coltiva was everything I could have hoped for and more from a WWOOF stay. Francesco and Fede are such warm, wonderful hosts with big hearts and a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. They were generous in supplying me with plenty of food and sharing their lovely home, and were even willing to drive me "past the dogs" so I could run in a new direction from the house ;) If you are looking for a place to learn what it is really like to own and operate a family-run organic farm and how to cultivate a community centered on common values, while also enjoying wonderful company and great food, this is one-hundred-percent the place. I cannot recommend coming here enough. I learned so much about organic gardening and caring for plants and animals from Francesco, and on top of that, he willingly taught me words and phrases in Italian whenever possible and showed me around the entire region. It was such a joy to be welcomed into their family, and even though I was there for just two weeks, they made it feel like home. From taking me to enjoy an afternoon at Lake Bolsena to playing games with Semilla while dinner was cooking, I was always included and welcomed with open arms. I found all the work we did so rewarding. Even if you're out for a full day, you learn so much and accomplish something interesting every day, so it never feels like too much! Francesco, Fede, and Semilla (and Zumo and Olive!), grazie mille!! Ciao :)
