We are at the farm of the permaculturist agronomist Ignazio Schettini located on the outskirts of the city of Bari. The farm can be reached by urban transport from the central station in just 35 minutes by bus or 15 minutes by train. The 3-hectare area currently has a focus on commercial gardens and vegetable gardens for rent for members of the social promotion association ''Laboratorio di Permacultura Mediterranea”, known as MEDIPERlab, which manages part of the farm's land on loan for free use. There is a mixed orchard, an olive grove and free-range poultry. There are also refuge areas for wild animals, areas for reforestation with tree species of Mediterranean scrub, 9 beehives for the management of pollination in the orchard, the breeding of earthworms in bathtubs and an area for the composting of organic matter and animal manure. The WWOOFer will have the opportunity to follow all the farm's operations, including direct sales activities and the organisation of courses aimed at environmental education and permaculture, having the possibility to stay by camping in tents (bring your own), caravans or paying for he apartment available in the historical centre of Loseto, a Medieval town 1.5 km far away from the farm and directly connected by a track that can be covered on foot (12 min) or by bicycle (4 min).

Bari Loseto is a train station where you can get in 15 min by taking a train from Bari Central Station. Very handy. From there you are ten minutes walking from Ta’ Rossa.

Ignazio is an amazing host! I had an incredible experience at Ta Rossa. Everyone around was welcoming me so nicely. Thanks a ton to Holy Controly, I gave him this nick name ;)) as he is a real Manager, always thinking of all and everybody, keeping any kind of upcoming situation under control which is quite important for the cycle of his wonderful place.
A funny guy with a big heart! I also wanna thank Nicola, his charismatic father. It was always fun & interesting talking to him.
Definitely an unforgettable time for me and my soul 🙏❤️

Ta' Rossa was a wonderful space. I did mostly olive harvesting while I was there and got to learn more about traditional, small-farm olive operations in Puglia than permaculture at large—mostly due to it being a small team and demanding work. I did spend a day or two in the garden beds/plots, though, and now have a better understanding of different kinds of composting. I would say the best way to learn at Ta' Rossa is by asking questions and being curious. Ignazio is happy to share what he knows and has, as long as you ask.
However, what was most special about Ta' Rossa was the community, which Ignazio knows how to build very well. Despite it being Ignazio who owns the farm, there were always folks coming in and out of Ta' Rossa to rent garden beds; there were folks to see in town at the oleificio and pastaio; there were folks we went to eat and meet up with in town and neighboring suburbs; there were even other wwoofers who came back to visit! I think what I will remember most about my time in Bari was the amount of good friends I made.

I was lucky to spend two weeks at Ta'Rossa in November, and it was a wonderful way to finish a year spent wwoofing across Italy. Ignazio was a super warm and welcoming host, always enthusiastic and happy to involve us in different activities, and I also loved working with his father Nicola, picking up some Italian music recs along the way!
Taralli on tap and being able to cook with produce picked straight from the garden meant we always ate well, and everyone at the farm was kind and very patient with my limited Italian. I spent my time helping with the olive harvest and various tasks in the vegetable garden and around the farm. It was a great way to see how an established permaculture farm operates, while also being able to visit some beautiful sites across Puglia from Bari.
Thank you Ignazio!!

I set out to learn what it was like to build an urban permaculture farm, but what I found instead was a magical week of living and working in a beautiful, abundant food forest alongside the most delightful team — Ignazio and his father, Nicola.
Their warmth makes you feel right at home. Ignazio is deeply kind and patient, always answering my many questions, and so much fun to be around. He checked in often to make sure I enjoyed the work, and I always felt trusted and supported. The meals were healthy and delicious, the tasks simple yet varied, and the caravan cozy and comfortable.
I loved watching Ignazio’s mind at work — his curiosity and openness make Ta' Rossa a place where everyone can experiment and learn. I hate to admit it, but he was right. One week isn’t enough! I know I’ll have to come back.
Special shoutout to Rovo and Lupa, the cutest companions anyone could ask for.
