Overlooking the town of Tropea, at an altitude of 600 meters, I am reclaiming land that has been abandoned for decades. My goal is to bring to life a small holistic, sustainable, and resilient community; I envision four or five small houses surrounded by greenery, looking out over the sea. It is a place for sharing beauty, social life, culture, "agri-culture," healthy food, industriousness, the joy of living, and breathtaking sunsets over the Aeolian Islands. The construction of the first two hempcrete (calcecanapa) houses has just been completed, a well has been dug, 250 new saplings have been planted, and the first trail through the property and the woods has been opened. Currently, I live alone on this land: for now, the project is like a newborn creature that needs to be nurtured, always respecting the wonder that surrounds it. Traveling companions will arrive, in due time, when the moment is right; for now, I am kept company by my dogs Moni and Luna, my kitten Cenere, animals great and small, the plants, the fresh air, and a lot of work. WWOOFers can help me on this journey while I search—with the necessary slowness and care—for pioneering partners to share dreams, needs, closeness, work, and friendship. I am a 59-year-old man, an Aquarius with Milanese roots, and father to three wonderful children (who live in the city). I have a background of 25 years working as the manager of a Social Cooperative. The main activities are planting and caring for trees and plants, as well as maintaining the grounds and the landscape. I find help in the vegetable garden very useful. I would like to expand and organize it further; it is a mulched garden based on the principles of "Elemental Agriculture" (Agricoltura Elementare), which I implemented after training with Giancarlo Cappello. I also need help opening trails and clearing the land—a task I approach delicately, preserving those plants that can find a place in the new design. In general, any activity involving the care of the place, the animals, the houses, and the land is helpful, as well as collecting and cutting wood for the winter. I am passionate about natural agriculture and permaculture. I can share with WWOOFers what I have learned through books, courses, and the hands-on experience I am gaining while restoring this land. Furthermore, I can share my knowledge of natural cooking, particularly vegetable fermentations. A typical day might begin by waking up with the sun, followed by a simple breakfast and a half-day of work in the fields (as described above). After lunch, WWOOFers have the afternoon free—while I usually continue working outdoors until the sun sinks into the sea—and we then share a soup for dinner. Rhythms and meals change according to the seasons and weather conditions. To host WWOOFers, a minimum stay of one month is required (the first week serves as a mutual trial week), as I want to give the proper time and meaning to this journey of sharing and exchange. During the colder months (October to May), I offer a self-contained two-room apartment, heated by a wood stove, with a double bed, a bathroom with a shower, and both wood-burning and gas stoves. From May to October, I provide a large glamping tent, also with a double bed and an external bathroom/shower. In either accommodation, I can host a single WWOOFer or a pair of friends/partners, including those with children. We will eat together at least once a day, as a moment for mutual exchange. I am a cook passionate about natural food; my diet is simple and varied, based on whole grains, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and some local fruit. Occasionally, I eat eggs, some locally caught fish, or pecorino cheese produced by a shepherd friend nearby. The origin of the food is vital to me: it must be grown or produced without chemicals. I rarely visit the supermarket, as the local farmers I know provide almost everything I need. I do not drink coffee, and I only rarely taste wine with friends on special occasions. I am a non-smoker and I prefer not to live near people who smoke. I love taking care of the land I inhabit and sharing its beauty; I love living and working in the fresh air with the sun on my skin. My passion is natural cooking, and I enjoy cooking both alone and with others. I also enjoy listening to music and singing. The surroundings are full of lush greenery, perfect for beautiful walks, resting while admiring the islands and the sea, or encountering glorious centuries-old oaks that offer shade and companionship. We are in the extraordinary region of Calabria… Tropea is just 20 minutes away, and 15 minutes away is one of the most beautiful beaches of the Costa degli Dei (Coast of the Gods) and Capo Vaticano. The Zungri caves are only 5 minutes away. In 50 minutes, you can reach the Thermal Baths of Galatro, and in an hour, the Caronte Thermal Baths. Not far away is the wild Aspromonte, waiting to be discovered with its beautiful trails and cool waterfalls.
