Mi chiamo Selena, (1988) e insieme a mio marito Timothy (1984) e nostra figlia Ninaluz (2021) viviamo in un villaggio montano sul massiccio del Pratomagno. Abbiamo scelto di vivere in questo luogo incantato e dedicarci ai terreni che abbiamo acquisito insieme alla nostra casa. Terreni che sono sparsi tra i monti e che hanno molte caratteristiche diverse l'uno dall'altro. Portiamo avanti mestieri antichi in accordo con la Natura e le risorse che abbiamo a disposizione. Produciamo scope in erica, cesti in vitalba, raccogliamo nei nostri boschi la legna che ci serve per scaldarci, curiamo i nostri olivi ed abbiamo un piccolo orto per uso familiare. Abbiamo anche un castagneto che a breve vorremmo rimettere in produzione. Timothy è un talentuoso falegname mentre io sono studente di scienze forestali e custode di mestieri antichi. La piccola Ninaluz, ci aiuta in tutte le attività dell'orto e ogni giorno impara qualcosa di quello che custodisce la nostra montagna.
Da agosto a marzo andiamo nell'ericeto a tagliare l'erica scoparia che mi servirà per produrre le scope. Se è luna calante, durante tutto l'anno, cerco la vitalba da raccogliere e sbucciare per intrecciare i cesti come mi ha insegnato il mio maestro Adus, anziano della montagna. Durante l'estate ci prendiamo cura dell'orto e dei terreni e prepariamo le conserve per l'inverno. Abbiamo molti progetti in corso, tra cui l'allestimento della cucina di servizio nella cantina. Una giornata tipo estiva potrebbe consistere nel diserbare a mano l'orto prima che il sole sia troppo caldo, raccogliere ortaggi, organizzare e ripulire le cantine, fare una bella passeggiata nel bosco, raccogliere erbe spontanee e fare Tai Chi al calar del sole. Capiterà di legare scope ed intrecciare cesti in preparazione di mercatini estivi.
Abbiamo molti amici che vivono nelle comunità locali, spesso ci troviamo per suonare e mangiare insieme.
La nostra casa è all'interno di un villaggio in pietra ed abbiamo una seconda casa esattamente di fronte alla nostra che teniamo a disposizione per gli ospiti, dotata di 2 camere da letto, un bagno, salotto e cucina. La colazione sarà indipendente (la seconda casa è dotata di tutte le amenità, frigo e fornelli compresi) mentre il pranzo e la cena saranno in condivisione presso la nostra abitazione.
Noi siamo artisti a tutto tondo! Timothy è un percussionista mentre io suono il tamburello e mi diletto con il clarinetto. Abbiamo un gruppo di "nuovo folk" della montagna con cui ci troviamo regolarmente per suonare e passare il tempo in allegria. Amo dipingere, disegnare col pirografo e fare Tai Chi Chuan. Amo fermentare le verdure, i fiori e le erbe spontanee oltre che preparare conserve.
In Pratomagno c'è tantissimo da vedere! oltre ai villaggi in pietra tutti da scoprire abbiamo fiumi in cui è possibile bagnarsi durante la calura estiva, il picco di 1500 metri dove si trova la croce del Pratomagno con i suoi splendidi pascoli, gli ericeti e i castagneti da esplorare lungo i sentieri segnati del CAI. Ed inoltre Loro Ciuffenna, il paese più vicino, nominato una dei "100 borghi più belli d'Italia" e la pieve romanica di Gropina, poco lontana.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
My name is Selena (1988) and with my husband, Timothy (1984) and our daughter, Ninaluz (2021) we live in a mountain village on the Pratomagno mountain formation. We chose to live in this enchanting place and dedicate ourselves to the land we acquired along with our house. The lands are scattered across the mountain, each with its own unique characteristics. We practice ancient crafts in harmony with nature and the resources we have available. We make heather brooms and clematis baskets, we gather firewood for heating in our woods, we tend our olive trees, and we have a small vegetable garden for family use. We also have a chestnut grove that we would like to bring back into production soon. Timothy is a talented carpenter, while I am a forestry student and custodian of ancient crafts. ìNinaluz helps us with all the garden tasks and learns something new every day about the treasures of our mountain.
From August to March, we go to the heather grove to harvest the brushes that I'll use to make brooms. During the waning moon, throughout the year, I look for clematis to harvest and peel for basket weaving, as my teacher, Adus, an elder from the mountain, taught me. During the summer, we tend the vegetable garden and the land and prepare preserves for the winter. We have many projects underway, including setting up the service kitchen in the cellar. A typical summer day might consist of weeding the garden by hand before the sun gets too hot, harvesting vegetables, organizing and cleaning the cellars, taking a nice walk in the woods, gathering wild herbs, and practicing Tai Chi at sunset. Occasionally, we'll tie brooms and weave baskets in preparation for summer markets.
We have many friends who live in the nearby villages; we often meet to play music and eat together.
Our house is located in a stone village, and we have a second house directly across the ally that we offer to guests. It features two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen. Breakfast is provided independently (the second house is equipped with all amenities, including a refrigerator and stove), while lunch and dinner are shared at our home.
We are all-round artists! Timothy is a percussionist, while I play the tambourine and enjoy the clarinet. We have a mountain "new folk" band with which we meet regularly to play music and spend time together. I love painting, pyrographing, and practicing Tai Chi Chuan. I love fermenting vegetables, flowers, and wild herbs, as well as making preserves.
There's so much to see in Pratomagno! In addition to the stone villages waiting to be discovered, there are rivers where you can bathe during the summer heat, the 1,500-meter peak where the Pratomagno cross stands, with its splendid pastures, heather groves and chestnut and beech groves to explore along the marked CAI trails. And then there's Loro Ciuffenna, the nearest town, named one of the "100 most beautiful villages in Italy," and the Romanesque parish church of Gropina, nearby.
